About Sheelagh
Hello. I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, working online and in person in South Northamptonshire. I support adults and young adults with difficulties including anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, low self-esteem, confidence, relationship issues, and periods of transition.
I offer a safe and confidential space where you can feel comfortable and secure. We work together to explore your concerns, understand the challenges you face, and move towards greater clarity, balance and emotional wellbeing.

Training and qualifications
I trained as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and hold a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Practice.
I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). The NCPS holds a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

How I work
I do not believe one single approach works for everyone. My work is integrative, which means I draw on more than one way of working and fit it to you, not the other way round.
Mostly I work in a person-centred way. That means you decide what we talk about and how fast we go. I listen carefully, without judging, and help you make sense of things in your own words. I then bring in parts of other approaches where they are useful to you.
I can help you notice patterns that may be holding you back, and move forward at a pace that feels right for you.
The approaches I use
- integrative
- Bringing together more than one approach, chosen to suit you and what you want from counselling.
- person-centred
- My main way of working. You lead, and I offer empathy, respect and honesty.
- psychodynamic
- Looking at how earlier experiences and relationships may shape how you feel and act now.
- mindfulness-based
- Paying attention to what is happening for you in the present, including thoughts, feelings and the body.
What a session is like
A session lasts 50 minutes. It is a warm, relaxed conversation. There is no test, and you do not need to prepare anything.
You can talk about whatever is on your mind. Some weeks there is a lot to say. Some weeks it is quieter. Both are fine.

Supervision and ethics
I work under regular clinical supervision, which is how counsellors make sure their work stays careful and ethical. As an accredited member I work to the NCPS code of ethics.
I am fully insured and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for the handling of personal information.
Start with a short call
The first step is a free 15-minute phone call. You can ask anything you like and decide afterwards. There is no obligation to book.
