Counselling in later life

Later life brings some of the biggest changes of all. They often arrive close together, and people around you may expect you to manage quietly.

Counselling is a place to talk about how things really are, with someone who has time to listen.

What you might want to talk about

  • Retirement, and working out who you are without the job
  • Losing a husband, wife or partner
  • Loneliness, including when there are people around
  • Changes in your health, or in the health of someone you care for
  • Family moving away, or seeing less of them than you would like
  • Things from earlier in life that have come back to mind

If you have never done this before

Many people were brought up not to talk about their feelings. If this is your first time talking to a counsellor, there is nothing you need to know in advance.

We simply talk. You set the pace and nothing is rushed.

Meeting in person in Brackley

I see people at the Brackley Wellbeing Centre, Croft Lodge, 39 High Street, Brackley. You can park in the Centre's car park, Pebble Lane, or the High Street.

If you have any worries about getting into the building or the room, tell me when we speak and I will explain exactly what to expect.

Phone sessions

If getting to Brackley is difficult, we can talk by phone. You do not need a computer or the internet, only a quiet room and a comfortable chair.

Sessions are £60 per 50-minute session, whichever way we meet. We begin with a free 15-minute phone call.

If you are arranging this for a parent

It is often a son or daughter who makes the first enquiry, and you are welcome to contact me to ask how it works.

Your parent needs to want to come, and I will need to speak to them directly before we book. They are the client, so what they say to me stays confidential, including from family.

You can pay for the sessions on their behalf if that helps.

Start with a short call

The first step is a free 15-minute phone call. You can ask anything you like and decide afterwards. There is no obligation to book.
